We the People Wednesdays Action for May 27
ACTION 1:
An outbreak of Ebola is coursing through parts of central Africa, and the US is doing little to help stop it, after massive cuts to global and domestic public health efforts. The U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization and the shutdown of USAID have weakened global disease surveillance, pandemic preparedness, and humanitarian aid programs, and weakened global U.S. influence.
Write to Senator Fetterman to support restoring U.S. leadership in global health efforts. Adapt this sample text:
Dear Senator Fetterman,
Make the U.S. a leader again in preventing and addressing global health threats like Ebola.
Sincerely,
<your name and zip>
Senator John Fetterman

ACTION 2:
Senator Andy Kim has become actively involved in protests and advocacy related to ICE detainees at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. He visited the facility with New Jersey officials, met with detainees’ families and community advocates, publicly called for the center to be shut down, and criticized poor conditions and lack of medical care. During protests outside the facility this week, Kim attempted to de-escalate confrontations between demonstrators and ICE agents and reported being pepper-sprayed by federal officers while trying to prevent violence.
Write to thank Senator Kim. Adapt this sample text:
Dear Senator Kim,
Thank you for your bold action in protesting conditions at the Delaney Hall detention center.
Sincerely,
<your name, city, state>
Senator Andy Kim
